In 1973 Dan Sandin created the now legendary video Five-minute Romp Through the IP, demoing the patch-programmable computer he created the same year. Anticipating today’s open source culture, Sandin freely distributed instructions on copying the instrument, enabling several versions of the system to be built by video artists around the world, a few of which are still up and running nearly half a century later.
